Maximizing traffic to a blog (especially this one)

My first guiding principal with this blog is to put out great content.  By great I mean relevant, valuable, interesting, engaging, and fun.

As I build a healthy inventory of content (and get more efficient adding more) I am putting more time and attention into the marketing and exposure for the blog.

Great content doesn’t do people any good if those people who would be interested in it don’t know about it, after all.

Did you notice how I found an image with a rocket? 😀

One of the ways to get more exposure is to cross promote my blog with other people’s who have a common interest.  That’s what I did when I blogged about Robert Zimmerman’s blog “Behind the Black” in this post.

In return, he mentioned my blog in his!  After that, I saw a huge jump in my traffic.  (I watch through my WordPress website stats and with more details in Google Analytics, which tells me exactly what website people click from to get to mine.)

My thanks again to Robert and everyone else who came over this way due to his writing about me.  The reason it worked so well is because these people are already proven to be interested in space and aerospace topics.  It makes sense for those of us with common interests to promote and encourage each other.

Another thing I’ve been doing is submitting my blog to blogging community pages and directories.  The latest I’ve used is Blogs Rater.  In return for my submission, they want me to paste some HTML code on my website.  So that’s what I’m doing right here:

If you have a blog, click over to Blogs Rater and add your site too.

Do you have a blog you would like me to read and promote?  Or do you know of others I should know about and share here?  Please tell me about it in the comments and I’ll check it out!  Then hopefully we’ll do some cross-promotion and help everyone out.  Especially those of you who want a successful career in aerospace.  Because–we still need more rocket scientists!
