Exclusive preview: a children’s bedtime story book for returning to the moon

This is an exciting time to be alive. We are in a “new space” era thanks to a growing movement of private and commercial space ventures.

Humans last walked on the moon before most of us were alive to see it. That is going to change. We will also see people go to space as tourists. As business travelers. As entrepreneurs. As artists.

Imagine the benefits to humanity when we can look up to the moon and say, “We are living up there. And we can go farther.”
How can we get back to the moon sooner? How can we get back to the moon – to stay?

The answer is not any technology. It is vision. Will power. Determination. This is your first look at an inspirational plan to make our future generations visualize this future in such a compelling way that they will have to make it come true.

If you are new here, my name is Brett Hoffstadt. Chances are you were like me. As a little kid lying in bed at night, I would fall asleep staring out the window at the moon and stars, fantasizing about space exploration. Many of us heard a bedtime book that mentioned the moon. It was this book, first published in 1947 – more than 70 years ago:

Goodnight Moon book cover

Goodnight Moon is still a profound success in 2020. It is bought on Amazon over 300 times every day! (In June 2020 it is ranked #79 of all books sold on Amazon.)

What if it had a modern update for our new era of space exploration?

Good news: This is going to happen. And I want proceeds from the book to go toward missions for the peaceful and prosperous exploration of space.

Here is a preview of the next book that will transport children to the moon, falling asleep there instead:

Saying goodnight on a moon base –To the greenhouse plants that grow lush. To the air locks that go “shush”…

Filled with vivid hand-made illustrations, children and families will enjoy going to sleep with visions of living on the moon.  Do you have children who love to dream about space exploration? Soon you can fill their minds with visions of living, exploring – and sleeping – on the moon. Bedtime will be something you both look forward to, because what child wouldn’t love to be transported to a moon base with all its adventure and appeal?

It is imperative for humanity to accelerate our growth into a space-fairing species, continuing exploration and kicking-off civilian settlement beyond Earth. Goodnight Moon Base is a heart-warming spark to ignite the imagination of our future innovators who will help us realize this destiny. If you want to learn more about me – and why I am doing this – here is my short story.

I grew up loving everything that could fly. I channeled this passion and my abilities with math, physics, and building things into aeronautical engineering degrees from Purdue University and Penn State University. Then I was fortunate to work in a diverse and rewarding aerospace engineering career that spanned over 20 years.

After leaving Boeing in 2014, I wanted to make an even bigger impact to help the profession that I love. I wrote and published my first book (which is why I launched the website you are on right now):
How To Be a Rocket Scientist: 10 Powerful Tips to Enter the Aerospace Field and Launch the Career of Your Dreams.

The book has had fair success and impact. But it didn’t change the world as much as I had hoped.

I looked for ways to reach people sooner to encourage, educate, and entertain them. So more recently, I made books like this:

SpaceX Puzzle book for kids
Space-X Fan Puzzle book cover

These books have been even more successful. Harnessing the passion and energy of children – while they still have it – and channeling that energy into human space exploration is how we will inspire more of them to dedicate their lives to making this childhood vision a reality.

Let’s have fun starting even younger. Let’s use the power of children’s imagination to say goodnight on a moon base. With enough children growing up with this vision, they will make it happen for us.

Goodnight Moon Base is a brilliant book! It connects me to my childhood and I’m so excited to read it to Luna, my 5-year-old daughter. A well-timed story to spark the imagination of the kids that will end up visiting and living on the moon.  It’s a future classic that will lay a foundation of wonder and curiosity for our future space travelers.
