Starbase as an official city means rocket scientist unique jobs

Historic news from this month, widely reported in many news outlets, such as ZeroHedge, is that Elon Musk’s Starbase Is Now A Real City.

This is exciting news for SpaceX and their audacious efforts to bring Starship reusable rocket operations into a full tempo.

But let’s think bigger picture here. Starbase as an official city means rocket scientist unique jobs. Let me explain.

There will now be an entirely new city that needs to be established. That means a city council, mayor’s office, police department, fire department, possible a court system, a permitting office, a planning office, trash and waste services…

What else? Perhaps a parks and recreation office, a tourism office, a chamber of commerce, a city engineering office, a code enforcement office.

I hope this doesn’t become a bureaucratic nightmare for SpaceX and burden for the citizens who live in Starbase. But for now let’s look at the bright side. Forming a brand new city that is centered around a historic reusable space launch facility means many new jobs and careers within this city.

If you like the idea of helping to establish, build, and operate a city, Starbase will now be a city where you can do that and have the right to call yourself a “rocket scientist”! Of a certain unique kind…

I happen to favor the city planning angle in all of this because my son happens to be a city and regional planning major at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. There will have to be substantial planning efforts as Starbase becomes an official city thanks to all of the development and infrastructure that SpaceX is demanding on the local area.

But think about the fire and emergency services for Starbase. They are going to need fire response personnel who have highly specialized training in explosives (rocket fuel), industrial systems, batteries, and chemical fires. They will qualify as legit rocket science fire fighters in my book.

Speaking of my book, read How To Be a Rocket Scientist if you want 10 clever yet effective tips chart your own unique trajectory into an aerospace or aviation career.

If it leads to a move into the new city of Starbase, Texas, I’d love to hear about it!
